Carlos Moro

Valladolid, 1953

Carlos Moro is an agricultural engineer and, like his ancestors, a winegrower, enologist, and winemaker. In 1988 he founded Bodegas Matarromera in Ribera del Duero. Three decades later, the Bodegas Familiares Matarromera Group, which he is president of, has a presence in six established winemaking regions: Ribera del Duero, Rioja, Rueda, Toro, Cigales, and Ribeiro; and his wines are exported all over the world. Apart from viticulture, his businesses have interests in biotechnology, enotourism, and such products as olive oil and cosmetics.

He is now recognized as one of the most innovative and committed Spanish businessmen, and has received numerous distinctions and prizes for his successes. In 2016, his support for research and development was awarded with the National Prize for Research, awarded by the Ministry of the Economy and Competitivity.

He is also the author of seven books, among them various guides to the cheeses of Spain.
